AMBUSH: Herdsmen Kill 10, Raze Benue Community


Tragedy struck early morning on Monday when gunmen believed to be herdsmen attacked a community in Logo local government area of Benue State, killing about 11 farmers including children,men and women.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the heinous attack happened at Tse-Ikyor village, near Ayoo community of Tswarev in Ukember-Agya ward of Logo local government area. The community is located along Anyiin-Kente-Wukari road.

Eye witnesses said that the assailants numbering over one hundred came  through the forest area near Taraba State, well armed and started shooting sporadically.

It was further gathered the attackers invaded the area, killed and burnt houses and quickly retreated back to the forest zone. Several persons were displaced, just as many have fled to Ugba and Anyiin to take refuge.

A former special assistant to Governor Gabriel Suswam on media, Chief Joseph Anawa, an indigene of the affected area narrated the incident yesterday.

“The armed militia invaded early this morning (Monday). They killed more than 10 of our people and over 11 persons were critically injured and were converyed to primary  healthcare centre in Anyiin.

The houses are still burning as I speak with you,” he said.
Police public relations officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed the attack and killing to newsmen and said investigation was ongoing. He stated that the number of casualties would be  disclosed as soon as it was confirmed.
