Speaking on a telephone interview with PUNCH's correspondent on Thursday, the president of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Mr. Michael Alogba-Olukoya, advised the Federal Governent not to go against it promises of scholarships, rehabilitation and employment to the recovered 21 Chibok Girls, adding that it would hinder the process of reintegrating them into the society.

He cited the case of Ese Oruru, the teenager who was allegedly abducted and impregnated in Bayelsa State by Yunusa Haliru, one of her mother’s customers,  in 2015.

At a court hearing on Tuesday, Ese’s mother, Rose, had complained that Ese and her baby had been abandoned by the government.
But commenting on the 21 Chibok schoolgirls who were recently released by Boko Haram, Alogba-Olukoya advised the government to provide necessary services and opportunities to rehabilitate them.
He said that failure to deliver on the promises made might result in disillusionment.
“We are watching events and we don’t want the Federal Government to renege on its promises to the girls. The government should ensure that all the scholarships, employment opportunities, rehabilitation and counselling services are provided for the girls. We don’t want them to be abandoned like Ese Oruru, as alleged by her mother. We owe the girls another new lease of life,’’ he said.
