During Gen. Sani Abach's Regime he was implicated in the 1995 Phantom Coup and later jailed for life but reduced to 15 years there after by the chairman of Special Military Tribunal, late Major-General Patrick Aziza who died in 2014. n 1999 when democracy was fulled restored to Nigeria, he was granted bail and was released from the prison. He contested and won the Kaduna Central Senatorial District on 28 March 2015 under the platform of APC. after loosing ing 2003 and 2011 respectively.
